RESUME WRITING 101 (PRESENTATION)

Most of the things presented here, are the things that are often disregarded by job seekers.
As mentioned in my previous posts regarding job interviews, every applicant should bare in mind that presentation matters because it is the first thing that the company sees.
Your credentials might be impressive but the employers might not appreciate it because they did not took the time to review your resume.Hence, it is better to consider the following items below.

1.PRESENTATION
  • PAPER
    • Use a plain white paper because it looks neat and clean
    • Avoid scented papers for your resume is not a love letter
    • Make sure your resume is well crease
  • FOLDERS or ENVELOPES are not NECESSARY
    • Unless your submitting your resume through snail mail, you don't need to put your resume on an envelope or folder. They don't need it anyway.
    • People from he Human Resource  of resume and they might not have the time to open your folder or envelope. Employers must see your resume instantly.
    • Also, it is impractical to spend so much on folders and envelopes especially if you're submitting your resume to hundreds of possible employers.
2. PAGES- If your resume exceeds to 3 pages, consider revising it, Again, people from the HR got a little time to read and review long resumes.
    • IDEAL PAGE NUMBER
    • FRESH GRADUATES- 1 to 2 pages are acceptable
    • EXPERIENCED EMPLOYEES- 2 to 3 pages
    • SPACE CONSUMED PER PAGE-If your resume has a second page, make sure that the text fills at least 3/4 of the page otherwise it will give an impression to the person reading it that you run out of important details to fill your resume.
    3. READABILITY
    • FONT
      • Stick to the traditional fonts such as Times New Roman,Arial and Verdana.
      • Avoid fancy fonts
      • Font size should not be too small and not too big. "10" to "12" are acceptable and readable
      • Font sizes should be the same all through out your resume. Your name in the resume is an exception. This can have a bigger font size than the rest of the content of your resume
      • Fonts should be coherent. Avoid switching to different styles
      • Fonts should be black
      • Lessen the use of Italics and Bold styled fonts.
4.REFERENCESReferences should not be included in your resume for this are only necessary for shortlisted candidates.Hence, you should have a separate sheet for this.
