Blogging 101 Seminar by Tag Media and Public Relations

Last August 16,2015, Tag Media and Public Relations in partnership with Zoomanity Group held a Blogging 101 Seminar at Paradizoo Mendez Cavite.
BLOGGING 101 SEMINAR
The  event aims to promote awareness to new and long-time bloggers about the rudiments and ethics of blogging. Particularly, the said affair intends to uplift the integrity and moral of bloggers by imparting the attendees that they should also act as professionals and/or as journalists.
It is also worth noting that the aforementioned occasion has an impressive line-up of respected and credible speakers.
The speakers include,James Jimenez,COMELEC's spokesperson,Art Samaniego, Tech Guru of Manila Bulletin,Cherry Burwell, owner of Big Difference Communications,Jeoff Solas,Best Western Plus Hotel's PR Manager and Dianne Salonga, long time blogger.
Particularly, the forum discussed about the following;

Social Media Responsibility
One of the most taken for granted  emerging concern nowadays is the responsibility and accountability of netizens in their online posts.
The speakers all agreed that everyone should be careful with everything they post and share online. They also support the idea that everyone should think first if a certain comment or share would hurt a particular person or a certain entity before posting anything online.
One of the statements by the speakers that deeply strike me was a line from Mr. James Jimenez. He said that "There is no antibiotic to anything that comes viral in social media". I firmly believe that his statement encapsulates the essence of being a sensitive and responsible netizen. It simply says that anything seen online whether correct or wrong will be forever available and will never be forgotten.
Bloggers Ethics
One advice given by Art Samaniego for bloggers is to act as journalist. In the sense that bloggers must also follow the code of ethics of journalists.
Say for instance, he said that novice journalists in their organization would always be thought of how to double source information. This is necessary to establish unbiased opinions.
How to Get Advertisers
With two years experience of working with bloggers, Ms. Cherry Burwell gave some valuable insights about what are the things that advertisers and public relations company would look for bloggers.
    • Bloggers who is  punctual- The so called Filipino time is never a valid excuse. This also work for Ms. Cherry. She reiterated that she gave due importance to clients, thus, bloggers who consistently comes in late is a nightmare. She also finds it rude for bloggers to leave immediately after getting their loot bags without finishing the event.
    • Bloggers with resources-  Ms. Cherry also advise bloggers to invest in their craft since it will definitely pay off in the end. Say for instance, she appreciates bloggers who have their own gadget and own data connection and would post real time happenings in their social media accounts about a certain event
    • Bloggers who submit their write-ups on time-  Being on time is also synonymous with submitting your articles on time. Again,Ms. Cherry said that she prefers bloggers who would submit their write-ups at least 72 hours after an event.
On the other hand, Mr. Jeoff Solas, said that bloggers must take the extra effort to build a valuable and lasting relationship with the Public Relations people. He said that if bloggers would not make their existence felt then they will not be seen.

An Amateur Blogger's Reflection
After the forum, I felt like there's more to blogging than spending long hours in front of your laptop writing a review while enjoying a sip of your coffee and eating your favorite junk food.
I realized that being a blogger has a great responsibility of spreading what is only correct and what would only benefit the general public. Being a blogger is not only connecting with your online readers but also connecting with people in the industry.
To sum things up, I would like to thank Tag Media and Public Relations for bringing this informative and wonderful event.
