The Beginning: An Art Exhibit by Cathy Velasco

If there's one thing you knew you can do, what would it be? Possibly, most of the people would wish that they knew how to sing well so they can have their  ticket to stardom. Perhaps, some would wish that they knew how to speak eloquently so they can be more confident and empowered. Well, mine would be knowing how to sketch. When, I was young I can still remember how I am so frustrated of not being able to replicate something into a drawing. Maybe, I have that deep desire to express myself thru drawing but gravely needs a proper training.
As Pablo Picasso would say it, "Painting is just another way of keeping a diary". Thus, knowing how to transform your feelings into a piece of art is indeed a reflection of what your feeling or experiencing at the moment.
The Beginning :An Art Exhibit made possible by AIEPRO
All of my thoughts about manifesting certain affection and aspiration through the arts were brought into life by the art exhibit sponsored by American Institute of English Proficiency (AIEPRO) last September 11,2015 at AIEPRO Quezon City campus. The said exhibit entitled The Beginning features the works of Cathy Velasco.

AIEPRO: American Institute for English Proficiency

AIEPRO, as the leading English Proficiency School in the Philippines, upholds in bringing education into the next level by not only teaching their students concepts but also bringing out the best out of them. This is possible by coming up with different activities that allows their students to mingle and practice their English skills, at the same time, allows them to be motivated in maximizing their own potentials and capabilities in different aspects such as the arts and sports.
Cathy as one of the former students of AIEPRO Quezon City was a reflection of AIEPRO's endeavor of motivating their students to pursue their passion and bringing out their student's potentials.
Through the collaborative efforts of AIEPRO and Cathy's family and friends this simple event was organized with a meaningful cause.
The Tahanang Sta. Lusia
All the proceeds of this exhibit will all go to Cathy's favorite charitable organization, the Tahanang Sta.Luisa.
The Tahanang Sta. Lusia aims to provide safe refuge for teenager girls that were sexually abused.
So here my three favorite themes about Cathy's art exposition.

A Celebration of Womanhood

This painting of a dying tree with withering leaves represents a woman who experienced a miscarriage.

This painting aims to celebrate the variations of  womanhood. According to the artist, every woman has her own universe and everyone should know how to accept and love it to achieve a happier life

A Celebration of Hope
I believe everyone once dreamed but not everyone of us grabbed that chance to make our dreams possible. Some of Cathy's works reiterate the significance of not being afraid of chasing your dreams.

We all started from the same ground and we might have different phasing but let me tell you
that speed should not be the measure of success. Thus, better focus on your goal and just wait
for the fruits of your labor.

A Celebration of Love

They say that love is a beautiful thing and I have to agree with that. Yet, there are certain things in life that you can't control making love a complex thing. Some of Cathy's works served as a reminder that LOVE IS TRULY WONDERFUL AND AT THE SAME TIME PAINFUL.

I can say that this photo depicts that love is not always enough
to make a couple stay together.

It really hurts to see someone go but there are always beauty in goodbyes
like a sunshine every after sunset.

Indeed, this event made me see things in a much deeper perspective. I admire Cathy for using her talent for a noble cause of bringing difference to the ladies of Tahanang Sta. Luisa. Congratulations to AIEPRO for bringing again a wonderful event.
